Monroe, LA — A Monroe man, Timothy Hinkie, 39, was arrested on Thursday, April 17, after being charged with cruelty to a juvenile.
The Monroe Police Department began investigating the case on March 18 after receiving a report of child abuse that allegedly took place on March 14. According to the complainant, Hinkie used excessive corporal punishment on a 9-year-old child.
The complainant noticed bruises on various parts of the child’s body after the child returned from being in Hinkie’s care. Following the report, the child was interviewed at the Children’s Advocacy Center on April 10, where the child revealed that Hinkie had accused them of stealing a set of markers. When the child denied the accusation, Hinkie reportedly whipped the child with a belt.
The child further stated that after taking a shower and noticing the bruises, they pointed them out to Hinkie. Hinkie allegedly responded by saying, “You’re going to be walking with a limp after we get these spankings over with.”
Timothy Hinkie has been arrested and charged with one count of cruelty to a juvenile. He is currently being held at Ouachita Correctional Center on a $5,000 bond.
