The city crime branch arrested 42-year-old Moinuddin Shaikh on Saturday and seized mephedrone (MD) drugs worth nearly Rs 10 lakh from his residence in the Juhapura area following a late-night raid.
Acting on a tip-off, the crime branch conducted a search at Shaikh’s house in Ronak Park Society, behind the APMC market on 132-ft Ring Road. Officers recovered 96.77 grams of mephedrone powder in zip-lock packets hidden beneath the kitchen platform, along with a small quantity of dark brown powder, a digital weighing scale, and empty bags, suggesting retail-level drug trafficking.
Additionally, six bottles of codeine phosphate-based cough syrup were seized from the bathroom. Preliminary FSL testing confirmed the powders as mephedrone, a synthetic stimulant. Two mobile phones used for drug transactions were also recovered.
During interrogation, Shaikh admitted that Mozam Yakub Ghoghari of Juhapura had supplied the drugs a day prior for resale. A case has been registered under Sections 8(c), 21(b), 22(c), and 29 of the NDPS Act.
