In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Basistha Police and Panbazar Police conducted separate raids in Guwahati on the afternoon of April 27, 2025, resulting in the arrest of notorious drug peddlers and the seizure of large quantities of illicit substances.

During a raid at Beharbari in Guwahati, the Basistha Police arrested Moidul Islam alias Raju (33), a resident of Nijarapara, Milannagar, Kamrup (M). Islam was found in possession of 31.52 grams of suspected heroin. Authorities also seized 26 empty vials, a mobile phone, and a scooty (Registration No. AS 01 DL 4036) during the operation. Islam, originally from Tangabari, Goalpara, was taken into custody, and investigations are currently ongoing.

In a separate but parallel operation, the Panbazar Police raided the area near the 2 No. Railway Gate in Lakhtokia, Guwahati, and arrested a minor boy. The minor was caught with 7 plastic vials containing 9.16 grams of suspected heroin and a blue-colored Realme phone. Following his arrest, the minor’s statement led to the identification and apprehension of another individual involved in the drug trafficking operation.

These successful operations are part of the ongoing efforts by Guwahati police to combat the growing issue of drug trafficking and narcotics abuse in the region.
