Two habitual fraudsters involved in a high-value investment scam worth Rs 83 lakh have been arrested in Indore. The complainant, identified as Rohan, alleged that Mohit Mahajan (38) and Nisar Ali (39) duped him by promising high returns on investments in various business ventures, including music events, tiles and marble business, and wholesale trade in FMCG products.
According to the complaint, the fraud took place between August 25, 2023, and March 19, 2024. During this period, the accused collected a total of Rs 1.17 crore from Rohan, initially building trust by paying small returns. However, they ultimately withheld Rs 83 lakh, deceiving Rohan and leaving him in financial distress.
Following the complaint, the Indore Crime Branch registered an FIR and launched an investigation. Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya confirmed that technical information was gathered, leading to the arrest of both accused. Upon interrogation, it was revealed that the duo had been involved in similar scams against multiple victims, and several previous cases were registered against them.
Mohit Mahajan, a resident of Telephone Nagar, Kanadia Road, claimed to work as a property broker and was involved in music events. He is reportedly a suspect in two previous fraud cases at Palasia Police Station. Nisar Ali, a resident of Labaria Bheru, admitted to running a money-lending business and confessed to being involved in multiple fraudulent activities in the past.
Both individuals were presented in court, and police remand was sought for further interrogation to uncover their broader network and any additional crimes. The investigation is ongoing.
