Two days after a tragic hit-and-run on the Delhi-Jaipur highway, police arrested Mohit (31), a civil engineer and B.Tech graduate, for causing the death of law student Harsh Singhal (25) and critically injuring his friend Abhishek Kumar (23).
The accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday near Hero Honda Chowk, when Harsh and Abhishek were standing near a railing on the service lane while waiting at a crowded eatery. The car, a Skoda with Hisar registration HR 20AL 4127, struck them and fled the scene despite bystanders’ attempts to pursue it.
Harsh, a resident of Om Nagar Colony, died on the spot, while Abhishek, from Shanti Nagar in Sector 11, was initially treated at Safdarjung Hospital before being transferred to a private facility in Rohini for surgery.
Police revealed that Mohit, who stays in a PG facility in Sector 14 for work, admitted to being drowsy while driving. His family resides in Nurpur Bahora village, Hisar, but he relocated to Delhi for employment.
An FIR was registered against Mohit at Sector 37 police station under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 106 (causing death) and 281 (rash and negligent driving). Authorities also recovered the vehicle involved in the crash.
ASI Sandeep, a police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest and noted that the accused was sleep-deprived at the time of the incident, highlighting concerns about road safety and negligence.
