Two persons wanted in the murder of businessman Vaibhav Gandhi in Bawana were arrested after a brief exchange of fire in the Shahbad Dairy area on the night of March 9–10, police said on Tuesday.
The accused have been identified as Mohd Irfan (40), a resident of Chand Bagh, Delhi, and Aishwary Panday (37) from Bhopura Chowk, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
Police intercepted the duo based on specific intelligence about their movements. The suspects allegedly opened fire at the police team, prompting officers to retaliate in self-defence. Both sustained bullet injuries and were subsequently taken into custody and shifted to Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini.
Authorities recovered two semi-automatic pistols, four live cartridges, six empty cartridges, a stolen motorcycle, and two helmets from their possession.
Criminal Background:
Mohd Irfan has a history in over 40 cases, including attempt to murder, robbery, dacoity, theft, and snatching across Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
Aishwary Panday is allegedly involved in five cases, including attempt to murder, Arms Act violations, Gangster Act, and theft.
The suspects were wanted in connection with the February 9 murder of Vaibhav Gandhi, who was shot outside factories in Sector 4 of the DSIIDC industrial area, Bawana, and declared dead on arrival at MV Hospital.
Earlier, five other persons were arrested in the same case: Arun (alias Pagal), Sandeep (alias Pujari), Sanjay (alias Tau/Ajay), Ravinder (alias Ravi), and Harish Kumar (alias Sonu). Police suspect Sanjay as the mastermind behind the murder.
A new case related to the police encounter has been registered at Shahbad Dairy Police Station, and the crime team has seized evidence for forensic examination.
