A 29-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his lover in Ottan Thottam, Erode, on October 31, police said on Sunday.
The accused has been identified as S. Mohan Kumar, a resident of Mettuvalavu near Gobichettipalayam, and the deceased as R. Sonia, 37, of Appakudal.
According to Siruvalur police, the case came to light after the body of an unidentified woman was discovered buried in agricultural land in Ottan Thottam on October 31. “The postmortem confirmed that the woman’s throat had been slit,” said a police officer from Siruvalur station.
During the investigation, police learned that Mohan Kumar and Sonia were in a relationship. When questioned, Mohan Kumar confessed to murdering Sonia after she allegedly pressured him to marry her.
Following his confession, police recovered the knife used in the crime and arrested Mohan Kumar. He was later remanded to judicial custody and lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison.
