In a tragic family dispute, Bengaluru police arrested Mohan Kumar in connection with the death of his father, Munikrishna (70), a retired BMTC conductor. The incident occurred on February 14 in Doopanahalli, Indiranagar, when Munikrishna was allegedly attacked with a baseball bat over a property dispute.
The assault happened between 10:15 pm and 10:30 pm near the Muthyalamma temple as Munikrishna took his pet dog for a walk. His younger daughter-in-law, Divya A (32), told police that she and her husband Gajendra lived on the first floor, while Mohan resided with his family on the third floor. Security guard Kiran alerted her that Munikrishna had collapsed on the road following an assault by Mohan and Gajendra.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Vikram Amate said Mohan was arrested for the attack, initially filed as attempt-to-murder, which was later upgraded to a murder case after Munikrishna died during treatment Tuesday morning.
Police investigations revealed that Munikrishna owned three buildings in Indiranagar and land in Bagepalli. He had made a will leaving property to his wife, Manjula, Mohan’s two daughters, and a portion to Divya. Mohan and Gajendra reportedly opposed the decision. Gajendra’s exact involvement in the assault is still under investigation.
Authorities are conducting further inquiries to ascertain the full circumstances of this domestic property dispute murder.
