In a major breakthrough, the Central Crime Detection Unit (CCDU) of the Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar (MBVV) Police Commissionerate arrested two men involved in a sophisticated digital arrest scam that defrauded a 74-year-old man in Lucknow of Rs95 lakh.
The accused, Mohammed Iqbal Balasaheb and Shain Iqbal Balasaheb, both residents of Mira Road and brothers, allegedly impersonated authorities and created a fake digital scenario to terrify B.N. Singh, a senior citizen from Lucknow. Under pressure from fabricated threats of legal action and “digital detention,” Singh was coerced into paying a massive ransom.
The case was first filed on April 8, 2025, at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Lucknow under relevant sections of the IPC and the Information Technology Act.
Upon locating the accused in Mira Road, Inspector Sunil Kumar Singh of the Lucknow Cyber Crime Police Station, with support from DCP (Crime) Sandeep Doifode, requested local assistance. The MBVV team, led by API Aviraj Kurade of the CCDU, acted swiftly.
On July 24, 2025, both accused were successfully arrested and subsequently handed over to the Lucknow Cyber Police for further legal action and investigation.
