A Bengaluru cab driver, Mohammed Mastan, has been arrested for stealing high-value items from the trunk of a renowned dancer and actress’s car. The stolen belongings, valued at Rs23 lakh, included a Rolex watch, diamond rings, a Bottega wallet, and Apple AirPods.
The incident took place on May 11 near Queens Road, when the actress parked her vehicle and went for a morning walk in Cubbon Park. Upon returning around 8 a.m., she discovered the boot left open and her valuables missing.
She attempted to track her AirPods via GPS but failed to locate them. By afternoon, she lodged a formal police complaint under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 303(2) for theft.
The Central Deputy Commissioner of Police, Shekhar H Tekkannavar, confirmed the recovery of the stolen items. CCTV footage from the area helped investigators identify Mastan, a resident of Mahalakshmi Layout.
During interrogation, Mastan admitted that he saw the actress placing the valuables in the trunk and noticed the boot wasn’t properly shut. He seized the opportunity and took the items, later claiming he had no idea the Rolex alone was worth Rs9 lakh.
The case remains under further investigation as authorities continue gathering evidence.
