Mohammed Akbar Held for Killing 3-Year-Old Son in Hyderabad

Father strangled child, dumped body in Musi River

In a heartbreaking and shocking case, a 35-year-old man, Mohammed Akbar, has been arrested for allegedly killing his 3-year-old son, Mohammed Anas, and dumping the body into the Musi River. The tragic incident took place in the Bandlaguda area of Chandrayangutta on Friday night, but it came to light only the next day when Akbar confessed during police interrogation.

Akbar, a vegetable seller, reportedly had frequent arguments with his wife, Sana Begum, over their younger son’s poor health. On Friday night, while Sana was away on her hospital night shift (she works as a caretaker), Akbar allegedly suffocated little Anas with a pillow.

After the murder, Akbar is said to have wrapped the child’s body in a bag, transported it on a two-wheeler, and dumped it into the river from the Nayapul bridge.

In an attempt to mislead police, Akbar initially filed a missing person complaint, falsely claiming that relatives who had taken Anas returned him near the house, and the child had gone missing afterward.

However, the police grew suspicious when mobile records showed Akbar received no such calls. CCTV footage from the area showed him leaving early in the morning with a bag — which turned out to be critical evidence. After intense questioning, Akbar confessed to the crime.

A case has been registered, and search operations led by HYDRAA and Disaster Response Force (DRF) resumed on Sunday to recover the body. Authorities believe that the flow of water, increased by recent flood releases from twin reservoirs, may have carried the body downstream.

The search remains ongoing, and further investigations are in progress.
