In a major crackdown on cross-border drug smuggling, Tripura Police, in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF) and Tripura State Rifles (TSR), seized cannabis worth Rs 15.30 lakh from Sepahijala district and arrested one suspect.

The operation, led by Sonamura Police Station along with the 81st Battalion BSF and 11th Battalion TSR, took place at Batadhula — a border area under the Sonamura subdivision. During the raid, authorities recovered 102 kilograms of dried ganja from the possession of Mohammad Mostafa (29), a resident of Kamalnagar Krishna Dula under Sonamura Police Station.

Mostafa was allegedly preparing to smuggle the consignment across the Batadhula border into Bangladesh. Officer-in-Charge Tapas Das revealed that initial interrogation suggests Mostafa is part of a wider network engaged in cross-border narcotics trafficking. Further arrests are anticipated as the investigation continues.

A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Sonamura Police Station. The accused will be produced before court, with police seeking custody to aid in further investigation.
