Mohammad Malik Caught After 16 Years on the Run Post-Parole

Life convict in Tihar murder case arrested by Delhi Police

In a major breakthrough, the Delhi Police have arrested Mohammad Malik (57), a life convict who had been on the run for over 16 years after jumping parole in 2009. Malik, a native of Nawada, Bihar, had been convicted in a 1997 murder case that occurred inside Tihar Jail, where he fatally stabbed a fellow inmate.

According to police, Malik was granted a four-week parole in 2009 but never returned to prison. Since then, he had been absconding, evading law enforcement agencies despite multiple attempts to track him.

Malik originally came to Delhi in 1982 seeking work but soon became involved in criminal activities, which eventually led to his conviction in the Hari Nagar police station case for the jail murder. His arrest brings an end to a decade-and-a-half-long manhunt.

Police have not yet disclosed further details regarding his current activities or location at the time of his arrest, but he is expected to be produced in court and returned to custody to serve the remainder of his sentence.

This case highlights both the risks associated with granting parole to high-risk offenders and the persistent efforts of the Delhi Police in tracking long-term fugitives.
