Two persons wanted in connection with the murder of a businessman in Bawana were arrested after a brief exchange of fire with police in Rohini Sector 34, officials said on Tuesday.
According to Delhi Police, the encounter took place after officers received specific intelligence about the suspects’ movement in the Rohini area.
The accused were identified as Mohammad Irfan and Aishwarya Pandey, who had been absconding for nearly a month after allegedly being involved in the killing of a trader in Bawana.
Police said when officers attempted to stop the suspects, they allegedly opened fire in an attempt to escape. The police team retaliated, resulting in a brief exchange of gunfire.
During the encounter, both Irfan and Pandey sustained bullet injuries in their legs and were subsequently overpowered by the police. They were taken into custody and shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Police also recovered a pistol, several cartridges, and a motorcycle from the accused during the operation.
Officials said further investigation is underway to establish the full sequence of events and the motive behind the Bawana businessman murder case.
