The Thane Crime Branch arrested Mohammad Aftab Alam (34), a resident of Bihar, for allegedly possessing over 3 kilograms of charas valued at more than Rs30 lakh.
According to police sources, Alam arrived at Thane railway station with the intent to sell the illegal substance. Acting on a tip-off received by Senior Inspector Salil Bhosale on June 30, the Crime Branch set a trap at Kopari East in Thane. Upon intercepting Alam, police recovered 3.096 kilograms of charas from him.
An FIR has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Following his arrest, Alam was produced in court and remanded to police custody for further investigation.
