Mohamed Hakim Arrested in Garden City Trafficking Case

Woman rescued after alleged abuse, forced marriage

by Amelia Crawford

GARDEN CITY, Kan. — A man is facing multiple serious charges, including human trafficking and rape, following a disturbing early morning incident that led police to rescue an injured woman.

At approximately 5:50 a.m. on Friday, April 11, Garden City Police responded to reports of a woman screaming for help on the east side of town. Officers arrived to find the woman in the driveway of a nearby residence, visibly injured. She was quickly transported to St. Catherine Hospital for medical care.

The suspect, later identified as 44-year-old Mohamed Hakim, fled the scene before officers arrived but was later located and taken into custody.

Investigators soon uncovered chilling details. According to police, the woman had been brought to the United States under the guise of an arranged marriage with Hakim. The arrangement, orchestrated by her family, was allegedly made under coercive, transactional terms.

Once in Garden City, the woman was subjected to ongoing abuse, both physical and sexual, and was reportedly held against her will. Authorities say she was denied access to outside communication and resources, completely dependent on Hakim.

As a result of the investigation, Hakim has been charged with several felonies, including:

Rape

Aggravated Domestic Battery

Aggravated Human Trafficking

Aggravated Kidnapping

Criminal Threat

Hakim is currently being held in the Finney County Jail. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities encourage anyone with information to come forward.

While Mohamed Hakim has been arrested, it is important to remember that he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

This case underscores the hidden dangers of human trafficking and highlights the critical importance of community awareness and law enforcement action in protecting vulnerable individuals.
