In a major crackdown on vehicle thefts, Mohali police arrested six suspects and recovered 15 stolen vehicles — including 13 motorcycles, a scooter, and an Alto car — across the district.
The arrested individuals were identified as Kamalpreet Singh (22) of Choltan Kalan, Birbal Kumar (22) of Badala, Lovepreet Singh (26) of Kheri village, Vivek Kumar (19) of Rampur Bilre, Harpreet Singh (19) of Morinda, and Sahil (19) of Rampur Bilre.
The operation, supervised by SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans and directed by SPs Saurav Jindal and Talwinder Singh, was launched on November 11 after Jaswinder Singh of Shivalik Vihar, Zirakpur, reported the theft of his motorcycle (PB65-R-7218). Investigations traced a chain of suspects involved in multiple vehicle thefts and sales.
A crucial tip-off on November 13 revealed that Kamalpreet Singh and Birbal Kumar were roaming on an unregistered black Splendor near Kharar, allegedly planning another theft. Acting swiftly, police apprehended them and recovered several stolen vehicles. Subsequent raids led to the arrest of four more accomplices operating in Mohali, Zirakpur, Daun, and Kharar.
Authorities stated that Kamalpreet and Birbal were responsible for stealing at least eight two-wheelers from locations including Kharar and Mohali court complexes, Main Bazaar, Gurudwara Sahib Daun, and various residential societies. The other suspects were linked to nine motorcycles and an Alto car from Daun, five bikes from Zirakpur, and additional vehicles from Kharar and Sector 67.
All six suspects are now in police custody, and further interrogation is underway, as officials believe the network may extend beyond the recovered vehicles.
