CERES, Calif. — A 28-year-old Modesto man was arrested Friday morning during a traffic stop in Ceres after police discovered he was driving a stolen vehicle with altered identification markings.
At approximately 9:22 a.m., Ceres Police Officer Ian Perry was patrolling near the intersection of Hatch and Herndon roads when he located an occupied vehicle that had been reported stolen. Officers contacted all occupants and detained the driver, identified as Jose Alejandro Aguilar Ceballos, 28, of Modesto.
During the investigation, assisting law enforcement agencies determined the vehicle was displaying a false license plate and had an altered Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). After locating the correct VIN, police confirmed the vehicle had been stolen from Florida.
Ceballos was arrested on charges of vehicle theft and possession of stolen property. He was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
