Two young men from Modesto were arrested early Tuesday, Sept. 16, following a police chase involving a stolen vehicle in Ceres.
At about 2 a.m., Officer Charles Lord-Huff received a broadcast about a stolen green 1993 Honda Accord. Shortly after, he spotted the vehicle traveling at a high speed and attempted to pull it over. The driver led officers on a brief pursuit through the city.
During the chase, two firearms were thrown from the vehicle’s window and quickly recovered by officers.
The pursuit ended when the suspect turned onto a dead-end street, stopped the car, and fled on foot. The passenger remained inside and was arrested, while the driver escaped on foot by jumping over several yard fences.
A perimeter was established with assistance from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office, including an air unit and canine unit Onyx, who helped track down the fleeing suspect.
Jesus Vega, 20, of Modesto, was caught and booked at the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges including auto theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, felon in possession of a firearm, and carrying a loaded firearm in public.
The 17-year-old passenger, whose name was not released due to his age, was taken to Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall facing charges such as auto theft, possession of a controlled substance, probation violation, false identification, carrying a loaded firearm in public, evading police, smuggling controlled substances into jail, possession of burglary tools, possession of a stolen vehicle, and an outstanding felony warrant.
