In a significant breakthrough, Khandagiri Police in Bhubaneswar arrested Mithun Paikray (28) of Paikray Sahi near Palamandap, recovering 25 Android mobile phones from his possession.
The arrest followed a complaint from Rankanidhi Sahoo, an auto-rickshaw driver, who reported that on May 19, while transporting passengers from Rasulgarh to Baramunda, Paikray hired his auto. During the ride, Paikray asked to borrow the driver’s mobile phone under the pretext of making an urgent call.
Trusting him, the complainant handed over his phone—but Paikray fled the scene with it.
Acting on a tip-off, police raided Paikray’s residence and apprehended him. During interrogation, he confessed to the theft, and officers seized the stolen phone along with 24 other Android devices believed to be stolen in similar incidents.
Police are currently verifying the ownership of the recovered phones and investigating whether Paikray was part of a larger mobile theft racket.
