In a major breakthrough, Nanakheda police in Ujjain dismantled an interstate mobile phone theft gang with the arrest of three individuals, including a minor. The gang, operating from Jharkhand, was caught in possession of 51 high-end mobile phones valued at approximately Rs20 lakh, along with 10 litres of toxic homemade liquor.

Superintendent of Police Pradeep Sharma shared details during a press conference on Saturday. Acting on a tip-off about suspicious individuals near an under-construction building close to Rewari Dhaba, police surrounded the area and apprehended the suspects.

The arrested have been identified as Mithun Mahto (30) and Kundan Kumar (25), both residents of Maharajpur village in Jharkhand, along with a minor accomplice. Upon search, police recovered the stolen mobile phones and toxic liquor.

A case was registered at Nanakheda police station under Section 49-A of the Madhya Pradesh Excise Act and other relevant IPC sections. Further investigation is underway in coordination with police units from other states to trace the gang’s full network.

Notably, Mithun Mahto already has two serious criminal cases lodged against him in his home district.
