In a major crackdown, Bhojpur police on Tuesday busted a well-organized inter-district bike-lifters’ gang that sold stolen two-wheelers to liquor smugglers. Four members of the gang, including the alleged kingpin, were arrested, and five stolen bikes were recovered.
According to ASP Parichay Kumar, the operation was carried out after a tip-off was received. SHO Santosh Kumar of Sandesh police station, in coordination with the district intelligence unit (DIU), raided Akhgaon village where they first apprehended Sunny Kumar with a stolen bike.
Upon interrogation, Sunny revealed the names of three more gang members:
Mithun Kumar (suspected kingpin)
Mantu Kumar
Sukesh Kumar
The suspects were arrested from different parts of Bhojpur district. Investigations revealed that the gang specifically targeted motorcycles to sell them to illicit liquor smugglers, suggesting a deeper nexus between organized theft and underground liquor trade.
Out of the five recovered motorcycles, one was reported stolen from Arwal district, three from Bhojpur, and one is still being verified.
Police sources confirmed that:
Sunny and Mithun Kumar are from Ahpura village under Sandesh police station.
Mantu Kumar is from Kamlapura village in Narayanpur.
Sukesh Kumar hails from the Sahar area of Bhojpur.
“The arrested men have named more gang members. Raids are ongoing and more arrests will follow,” said Ara Sadar SDPO.
