Police have released footage capturing the arrest of Mitchell Thomas Hinde, 42, charged with the murder of Patrick James Stewart in Brisbane.
On Saturday morning, emergency responders found 50-year-old Patrick Stewart unresponsive with critical injuries inside a unit on Ryan Street in the West End suburb. Despite efforts to save him, Stewart died at the scene. Authorities have described the incident as a suspicious and targeted attack.
Hinde, a Fortitude Valley resident, was arrested Sunday evening and charged with Stewart’s murder. Body-worn camera footage shows police officers approaching Hinde at a train station in Logan, with one officer drawing a Taser before placing him in handcuffs. The suspect was then covered with a forensic suit before being transported.
Court documents indicate Hinde, employed as a tree lopper, was known to residents of the unit. He is scheduled to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on September 1.
Detective Inspector Wayne Francis praised the emergency crews for their response and described the scene as traumatic for first responders. Police confirmed no other individuals were present at the unit during the attack and assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to the community. The investigation remains active, with authorities seeking to identify and interview all potential witnesses.
