Two men from New York are facing multiple charges after allegedly attempting to scam residents in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, through a fraudulent home improvement scheme.
According to the Windsor Locks Police Department, officers received a complaint on Wednesday from a resident on Alicia Terrace who said two men offered to seal his driveway for $500. The resident agreed and wrote a personal check. However, once the job was halfway completed, the men demanded an additional $600.
The homeowner, suspecting something was wrong, refused to pay more and told the men to leave. He then contacted police.
Officers canvassing the area soon located the suspects on Garry Road, where they had allegedly just attempted to scam another individual. In that second case, no money changed hands.
Police arrested the two men and identified them as Mitch L. Delmaro, 26, of Islip, NY, and Paul C. Delmaro, 28, of East Northport, NY.
Both were charged with criminal attempt to commit larceny for the second incident and face additional charges from the Alicia Terrace case, including acting as a home improvement contractor without a license and second-degree larceny. Police said the larceny charge was elevated due to the victim’s age.
The Delmaro brothers are each being held on a $50,000 bond.
