Vietnamese authorities have arrested Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien, the Miss Grand International 2021 winner and social media influencer, following allegations of consumer fraud. Tien, who gained fame after winning the prestigious Miss Grand International pageant, was accused of misleading customers by heavily promoting a fiber supplement that was later found to be counterfeit.

Tien, along with fellow influencers Pham Quang Linh and Hang Du Muc, marketed the Kera Supergreens Gummies, claiming they contained fiber equivalent to a plate of vegetables. The gummies were advertised on their social media platforms as a health supplement, with Tien being a major promoter of the product.

However, the claims came under scrutiny after a consumer test revealed that each gummy contained only 16mg of fiber, much less than the 200mg claimed by the product’s advertising. Following this revelation, public backlash ensued, and authorities launched an investigation into the matter.

The investigation uncovered that the gummies were made with sub-standard ingredients, lacking the advertised fiber content. Additionally, the product’s packaging failed to disclose key information, including the actual fiber content and the high levels of sorbitol, an ingredient used in laxatives, which could be harmful if consumed in large quantities.

In March 2025, the three influencers, along with the company behind the product, were fined for their involvement in the deceptive marketing. The scandal led to the halt of sales of over 100,000 boxes of the gummies.

Authorities continued their probe and arrested Pham Quang Linh, Hang Du Muc, and several company officials. They were charged with producing counterfeit goods and defrauding consumers.

On Monday, May 19, 2025, authorities announced the arrest of Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien, accusing her of deliberately deceiving the public with false claims about the product’s benefits.

Before this incident, Tien was a celebrated celebrity in Vietnam, having appeared on various reality TV shows and collaborated with numerous brands. She also received several accolades from Vietnam’s government and the Communist Party.

Tien’s arrest marks a dramatic turn in her career, as she faces legal consequences for her role in the fraudulent promotion. This case highlights the growing scrutiny of influencers and their responsibility in ensuring the products they endorse are truthful and safe for consumers.
