Mirla Gonzalez-Palma Charged with Fatal Stabbing in Indy

Domestic dispute turns deadly on Shortridge Drive

INDIANAPOLIS — A 31-year-old woman is facing a murder charge after police say a domestic argument turned deadly on the east side of Indianapolis.

Mirla Gonzalez-Palma, also known as Milla, was arrested after allegedly stabbing her 20-year-old partner, Breyner Perez Matute, during a confrontation at an apartment complex on Shortridge Drive, just behind IMPD’s East District headquarters.

Court records reveal Gonzalez-Palma initially claimed self-defense but later admitted she was not in fear for her life, stating she was intoxicated, enraged, and seeking revenge after being hit during the argument.

Despite efforts by witnesses and Gonzalez-Palma to drive Matute to Community East Hospital, he succumbed to a single stab wound to the chest within 15 minutes of arrival.

According to police, Gonzalez-Palma confessed that although her partner tried to calm the situation after striking her, she was too angry to de-escalate.

“Unfortunately, individuals involved in this lost their temper — both parties may have done so,” said IMPD Officer Tommy Thompson.

One witness, along with Gonzalez-Palma’s 12-year-old son, helped investigators quickly piece together the timeline of events. The woman was seen yelling, “Don’t die,” and telling neighbors, “He hit me,” while attempting to get Matute to the car.

Authorities emphasized the need to walk away from escalating situations and seek help rather than resorting to violence.

“When you’re in a hostile argument, maybe it’s turning physical, you have to walk away and get to a safe place,” said Thompson.

Gonzalez-Palma is being held without bond and is also under a federal immigration detainer from Venezuela. Formal charges are pending, and her initial court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.

The case is still under active investigation.
