Nicole Mitchell, a Minnesota state senator, was charged with first-degree burglary after being arrested early Monday morning at her stepmother’s home in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Mitchell, 49, denied the allegations, claiming that she was simply retrieving belongings from her late father’s estate.
According to the criminal complaint, officers detained Mitchell while she was wearing black clothing and a black hat. They also discovered she had a torch with a black sock over it. Mitchell reportedly entered the property through a window and fled into the basement when police arrived at the scene.
Her stepmother had contacted law enforcement to report a break-in. Mitchell, a former local TV meteorologist and Air Force veteran, has denied any wrongdoing in the incident.
