In a major bust, Milton Chakraborty alias Lucky and his associate Kasimuddin were arrested early Tuesday with 52.02 grams of heroin while en route to Shillong from Silchar. The arrest was made near Mihmyntdu by a joint team of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and West Jaintia Hills police under the jurisdiction of Jowai Police Station.
The duo was traveling on an MTC (Meghalaya Transport Corporation) bus (ML 03 0189) when officers intercepted it around 4 a.m., acting on a late-night tip received at 11 p.m. the previous day.
In the presence of independent witnesses, a thorough search revealed:
Two soap boxes containing heroin hidden in Kasimuddin’s underwear
Three soap boxes wrapped in plastic, hidden on Chakraborty’s person
The substance tested positive for heroin, and was seized under procedures outlined in the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
This arrest comes just days after two individuals from East Khasi Hills were caught with 23.24g of heroin in a similar Silchar–Shillong transit via an MTC bus. While police have not confirmed a direct connection between the two cases, authorities are now investigating a possible interstate drug trafficking network.
A formal case has been registered at Jowai Police Station, and further investigation is ongoing to trace the broader supply chain.
