A Milford man was arrested on Thursday after being implicated in an iPhone insurance fraud scheme. State police received a complaint in March 2024 about an organized group using fraudulent insurance claims to obtain new Apple iPhones. Investigators quickly identified 37-year-old Esmaylin Delacruz as a key suspect.
Following a search of Delacruz’s residence in November, authorities discovered several iPhones that were acquired through fraudulent claims, along with other evidence linking him to the crime. It was also revealed that Delacruz had recruited individuals to open accounts with various wireless carriers and file false insurance claims on their behalf.
Delacruz was arrested on Thursday under an active arrest warrant. He faces multiple charges, including first-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit larceny, and insurance fraud.
He was held on a $75,000 bond and appeared in court on Friday.
