HOUSTON, Texas – A second suspect has been charged in the May 24 fatal shooting of 18-year-old Kenneth Leaks and the wounding of another teen in southwest Houston.

Miles Julian Edwards, 19, was arrested and charged with capital murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Houston Police Department (HPD). His arrest follows the earlier capture of Zion Armon Mitchell, 18, who faces the same charges. Mitchell’s case is currently assigned to the 482nd and 183rd Criminal District Courts.

The incident occurred in the parking lot of an apartment complex at 5410 North Braeswood Boulevard, where Leaks had gone to meet someone for a transaction. According to police, he was approached by multiple individuals. During the encounter, one of the suspects pulled a firearm and shot Leaks, striking him at least once. A 17-year-old male was also shot but survived with non-life-threatening injuries.

Leaks was taken to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital in a private vehicle, where police later responded. Investigators identified Zion Mitchell as the first suspect, and he was arrested on June 16 by the HPD Southeast Patrol Division’s Crime Suppression Team. Miles Edwards was later identified and taken into custody on August 28.

Both men are being held at the Harris County Jail. The investigation remains ongoing.
