CEDARTOWN, GA — A Cedartown bank teller has been arrested following an investigation into missing funds from drive-thru transactions at Colony Bank.
Mikayla Brewster, 29, was taken into custody on August 14 and charged with three counts of felony theft by taking. The charges stem from a complaint filed on August 7, when a customer reported being shorted during a cash-back transaction.
The Cedartown Police Department launched a multi-day investigation, during which officers with the Criminal Investigative Unit conducted surveillance operations. Their findings revealed several hundred dollars were missing from drive-thru transactions over several days.
According to police, Brewster acted alone, and Colony Bank staff and management are fully cooperating. The bank has already reimbursed the affected customer.
“The resident that approached us was certainly a victim here, and Colony Bank is also a victim,” said Police Chief Jamie Newsome. “They are openly working with us to bring closure to this case.”
City Manager Edward Guzman also commended the bank’s transparency and assistance, stating that officials remain confident in the institution’s integrity.
Brewster has been released on $15,000 bond, and police say additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
In Georgia, theft involving bank property is considered a felony offense.
