COLUMBIA, S.C. — A 32-year-old woman from Upstate South Carolina has been arrested and charged in connection with Medicaid fraud, according to the state Attorney General’s office.
Mikalia S. Mitchell faces two counts of forgery (less than $10,000 in value) and one count of medical assistance provider fraud.
Between August 2024 and January 2025, Mitchell allegedly forged signatures on timesheets and submitted falsified records to the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. Authorities say she claimed to have provided services to two Medicaid beneficiaries, which were never actually rendered.
The forged documents were submitted in an attempt to fraudulently collect Medicaid payments.
Mitchell was arrested and booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center on Thursday, June 12. The case will proceed through the South Carolina judicial system, with further details expected as the investigation unfolds.
The Attorney General’s office emphasized its continued commitment to prosecuting fraud that impacts state healthcare resources.
