In a major crackdown on narcotics, Manipur Police arrested two individuals in separate operations in Jiribam and Imphal West districts, recovering over 15 kilograms of suspected illegal substances, including brown sugar, heroin, and psychotropic tablets.

The first arrest occurred during a surprise anti-drug operation along the Barak River between Savomphai and Chaudharykhal villages under Borobekra Police Station. Police intercepted Mihir Roy (26) of Kanakpur Part-II, Rangirkhari, Silchar (Assam), during a routine frisking of passenger boats.

Authorities seized:

616 soap cases suspected to contain brown sugar (approx. 10.096 kg)

Five packets holding 250 pouches of suspected narcotic tablets (approx. 5.280 kg)

The contraband was packed in three large gunny bags. Roy was taken into custody and booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.

In a separate incident, police intercepted a white Maruti A-Star near Singjamei Chinga Makhong in Imphal West. Upon inspection, officers discovered ten soap cases of Heroin No. 4, weighing 105.4 grams, hidden inside the vehicle.

The car’s occupant, Md. Azad Yumkhaibam (32) of Irong Cheisaba, Thoubal district, was arrested on the spot. His vehicle and the contraband were both seized for further investigation.

Both suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue to uncover their network and sources.
