NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — A South Dakota man is facing serious drug and theft charges after authorities discovered over a pound of methamphetamine in a vehicle reported stolen out of Colorado.
Miguel Pena Cervantes, 45, was arrested early Sunday morning at a gas station in North Platte after a Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputy responded to a tip about a potentially stolen Chevy Malibu with South Dakota plates.
Upon confirming that the car had been stolen from Colorado, the deputy conducted a traffic stop and took Cervantes—who was standing near the driver’s door—into custody.
According to the arrest affidavit, a search of the vehicle uncovered two packages of suspected methamphetamine, weighing over one pound in total.
Cervantes has been charged in Lincoln County Court with Distribution of Methamphetamine and Theft by Receiving. He was arraigned on Monday, with bond set at 10% of $500,000.
His next court appearance is scheduled for July 3 at 9:00 a.m.
