KEMPER CO., Miss. (WTOK) – Michelle Clay, a resident of Kemper County, has been indicted after a SNAP fraud investigation revealed that she had improperly obtained $30,864 in benefits. Clay allegedly failed to accurately report her household income and composition to the Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS).

On March 25, Clay turned herself in to authorities after the investigation uncovered her fraudulent actions. She is now facing five charges of welfare fraud and five charges of making fraudulent statements.

The Kemper County District Attorney’s Office pursued the case following a thorough investigation. The indictment was secured on March 19, and Clay voluntarily surrendered to MDHS investigators and Kemper County officials shortly after.
