LOCKE, NY — Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck reports the arrest of 48-year-old Michael Zirbel following a domestic incident earlier this week.
Deputies responded to a Locke residence around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday after a report of a physical domestic dispute. Investigation revealed that Zirbel had violated an order of protection by subjecting a woman to unwanted physical contact. He had left the scene before deputies arrived.
A warrant was later issued for Zirbel’s arrest on charges of first-degree criminal contempt, a felony, and attempted third-degree assault, a misdemeanor. Deputies located and arrested him on Monday.
Zirbel was taken to Centralized Arraignment, where the order of protection was upgraded to a full stay-away order. He was remanded to the Cayuga County Jail due to being on parole and facing a felony charge.
He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Locke Court on Thursday.
