Michael Szabo Arrested for Motor Vehicle Theft After Torrington Fire

Torrington man faces charges as fire investigation continues

TORRINGTON, Conn. — A Torrington man was arrested and charged with motor vehicle theft after a fire broke out at his home, authorities said.

Torrington Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Migeon Avenue around 11:23 p.m. Thursday, discovering the second floor engulfed in flames. Shortly after, Torrington Police received a report of a stolen vehicle on Prospect Street.

The stolen vehicle was located on Route 8 South near Waterbury, and the driver was identified as 35-year-old Michael Szabo. He was arrested and charged with motor vehicle theft.

Szabo is a resident of the Migeon Avenue home where the fire occurred. The cause of the fire remains under investigation and is considered suspicious. Police have indicated that further charges and arrests may be forthcoming.
