Michael Pankow Charged in North Greenbush Identity Theft Case

Watervliet man accused of using false identity after arrest

by Sophia Bennett

NORTH GREENBUSH, N.Y. — A Watervliet man, identified as Michael Pankow, has been charged with multiple felonies following an identity theft investigation by the North Greenbush Police Department (NGPD).

The investigation began after Pankow’s September 8 arrest for petit larceny, where he allegedly stole just under $100 from a Hannaford supermarket. During that arrest, police say Pankow provided a false name and even signed official paperwork using another person’s identity.

After discovering the deception, investigators obtained a warrant for his arrest. Pankow was located and taken into custody on October 28 at the Albany County Jail, where he was already being held on unrelated charges.

He now faces several felony and misdemeanor counts, including:

First-degree identity theft

Second-degree forgery

First-degree offering a false instrument

Second-degree criminal impersonation

Following his arraignment in North Greenbush Town Court, Pankow was returned to Albany County Jail pending further court proceedings.

Authorities said the case remains under investigation.
