TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The Tucson Police Department has released new details in a weekend homicide investigation that left 60-year-old Michael Lee Baker dead.
On Sunday, April 13, officers responded to a call about an unresponsive male at Doris J. Thompson Park. They discovered Baker’s body under ramada number 3.
According to authorities, Baker suffered significant blunt-force trauma. The interim complaint reported that he had a broken jaw, missing teeth, and visible signs of a violent assault.
At the scene, officers found bloody shoe prints believed to be from Vans-brand footwear.
The previous evening, Tucson Fire Department had responded to an unrelated call in a nearby parking lot about an unconscious man who later refused medical attention and left. That man was identified as 19-year-old Daniel Xavier Webster. He was wearing Vans shoes and matched the description from the earlier incident.
Investigators later discovered blood-stained clothing and shoes at Webster’s residence. During questioning, Webster admitted to being at the park Saturday around 5 p.m., drinking with friends. He claimed he was too intoxicated to recall any details beyond that point.
Webster had visible injuries on his right knuckle, nose, and forehead. He was arrested and booked into the Pima County Jail on a first-degree murder charge. His bond is set at $1,000,000.
His next court hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on April 24. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact 88-CRIME. Callers can remain anonymous.
