Gainesville Man Arrested for Violent Assault in East Hall County
GAINESVILLE, GA — A 46-year-old Gainesville man, Michael Paul Ledford, was arrested Sunday afternoon after allegedly attacking a 64-year-old man in the backyard of a Hall County residence.
Deputies with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office responded around 2:30 p.m. to a home on Oconee Circle near White Sulphur Road. When they arrived, they found both Ledford and the victim outside the residence.
Investigators say Ledford tackled the older man, wrapped his arms around the victim’s neck in a chokehold, and punched him in the eye and ear. The attack left the victim with visible injuries.
According to witnesses, the incident appeared unprovoked. Ledford, who was known to the victim, was reportedly intoxicated at the time and was also charged with public intoxication.
While deputies attempted to arrest him, Ledford became combative, kicking at deputies and threatening to head-butt and bite one of them. None of the officers were injured.
The 64-year-old victim was treated on the scene by emergency personnel. Ledford was booked into the Hall County Jail and faces multiple charges, including:
Aggravated Assault
Battery
Three counts of Obstruction of an Officer
Public Intoxication
Bond has been set at $17,500. As of Monday afternoon, Ledford remained in jail.
