CHICAGO — A 19-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was shot during an armed robbery in Chicago’s Lake View East neighborhood, police said.
Michael Jenkins was arrested Monday in the 3700 block of S. Princeton on the city’s South Side. He is accused of participating in a robbery that led to the shooting of a 24-year-old woman around 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the 400 block of W. Wellington Avenue.
According to police, the woman was walking outside when three men exited a silver SUV and approached her at gunpoint. After a struggle, one of the suspects shot her in the abdomen before fleeing the scene. She was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital and is listed in good condition.
Jenkins now faces multiple felony charges, including:
One count of attempted first-degree murder
Three counts of armed robbery with a firearm
Two counts related to stolen vehicles
One count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a person under 21
One count of identity theft
In addition, Jenkins is charged in connection with the June 9 armed robbery of a 21-year-old woman and two vehicle thefts reported on June 9 and July 12 — all incidents also occurred in the Lake View East area.
Police are still searching for the two other suspects involved in Sunday’s robbery and shooting. No additional arrests have been announced.
Jenkins was scheduled for a detention hearing Wednesday at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse.
