FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. — A 75-year-old man from Manitowoc County, Michael J. Kornely, has been indicted on multiple federal charges for crimes involving minors, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.

An unsealed indictment alleges that Kornely transported two different minors across state lines in 2005 and 2006 with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity. In a more recent allegation, Kornely is also accused of using a computer in March 2024 to attempt to persuade, induce, and entice a minor to engage in unlawful sexual conduct.

The March 2024 incident was initially investigated by the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office.

If convicted of any of the three charges, Kornely faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison and up to life imprisonment. He may also face a fine of up to $250,000 and would be required to register as a sex offender under both federal and state laws.

The case is currently ongoing and being prosecuted in federal court. Authorities have not disclosed additional information about the victims due to the sensitive nature of the crimes.
