A 47-year-old repeat offender, Michael Cates, was arrested in Colorado Springs after a vehicle pursuit and coordinated multi-agency operation, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office announced.
Detectives identified Cates in downtown Colorado Springs during active operations on Tuesday. Cates, who has a lengthy criminal record including multiple active felony warrants, was followed to his vehicle. When officers attempted to arrest him, he refused to comply and fled, nearly hitting detectives.
The vehicle was later located at a hotel on Rusina Road. Thanks to surveillance and the support of the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Property Crimes Unit and SWAT team, Cates was apprehended without incident.
At the time of arrest, Cates faced 39 felony charges across five outstanding warrants, including burglary, theft, identity theft, providing false information to a pawn broker, and possession of a controlled substance.
He was booked into El Paso County Jail on a $235,000 bond.
