Michael Burrows Charged in Student Abuse Case in Ankeny

Ankeny Christian Academy teacher faces felony charges

ANKENY, Iowa — A former teacher at Ankeny Christian Academy has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies for allegedly inappropriately touching a student.

Michael Scott Burrows, 50, is facing three counts of lascivious acts with a child, all classified as Class C felonies under Iowa law. Authorities say the alleged abuse occurred between August 2021 and May 2022, during which time Burrows served as a band teacher at the school.

According to the Ankeny Police Department, the investigation began on August 8, 2025, following a tip that Burrows had inappropriately touched a student. The alleged victim was enrolled at Ankeny Christian Academy at the time.

Burrows was taken into custody on Wednesday and is currently being held without bail at the Polk County Jail.

KCCI has reached out to Ankeny Christian Academy for comment but has not yet received a response.
