Michael Buie is accused of shooting Jemell Allen, 35, during an argument inside an apartment on Manor Parkway just after midnight. According to Rochester police, both men were among a group of relatives and acquaintances gathered at the location when a verbal dispute between Buie and Allen escalated into a physical altercation.

Investigators say Buie shot Allen in the back of the head. Allen was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Buie turned himself in to authorities on Wednesday. He is now charged with:

Second-degree murder

Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon

Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon

Officials confirmed that Buie has at least two prior felony convictions, including a federal conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

He was arraigned Thursday morning and entered a plea of not guilty. Prosecutors said Buie is being held without bail.
