Michael Bermudez-Gagnon Arrested for Fatal Rensselaer Stabbing

RENSSELAER, NY — A 34-year-old man from Coeymans, Michael Bermudez-Gagnon, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder following a fatal stabbing early Sunday morning in Rensselaer.

Around midnight, police responded to a report of a stabbing on John Street, where they found Brent Reed, a local resident, suffering from chest wounds. Emergency responders treated Reed on the scene and transported him to Albany Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

The suspect had fled the scene before officers arrived. After a swift investigation, with assistance from the New York State Police and several local law enforcement agencies, Bermudez-Gagnon was taken into custody later the same day.

He was arraigned before Judge Linda Johnson in Rensselaer City Court and remanded to Rensselaer County Jail without bail. A follow-up court appearance is scheduled later this week.

Authorities extended gratitude to cooperating agencies and offered condolences to Brent Reed’s family and friends.
