LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – A substitute teacher from the United Independent School District (UISD) was arrested at United Middle School after being found with marijuana inside her vehicle, police said.
According to authorities, officers responded to a burglary report around 2 p.m. on October 23 near Lindenwood Drive and Berkley Road. The caller, a male, reported that his ex-girlfriend, 20-year-old Mia Sophia Espinoza, had allegedly broken into his home on the 1900 block of Denmark Lane.
Espinoza, identified as a substitute teacher for United Middle School, was later located in the school parking lot. She consented to a vehicle search, during which officers discovered a glass jar containing a Ziploc bag of marijuana in the glovebox.
Although the male complainant declined to pursue burglary charges, Espinoza was arrested for possession of marijuana.
Police confirmed that no drugs entered the school premises and that there was no threat to students or staff.
In a statement, UISD informed parents that the incident occurred in the parking lot and was not related to any student misconduct. The district emphasized that student safety and well-being remain its highest priorities, and its Human Resources Department is following proper personnel procedures.
