PENSACOLA, Fla. — Alfredo Mendoza Montero, a Mexican national living in Pensacola, was sentenced to two years and one day in federal prison after pleading guilty to multiple identity theft-related charges.

Montero illegally entered the U.S. in 2019 and purchased identification documents belonging to a real American citizen. Using these stolen documents, he fraudulently applied for a U.S. passport in 2022 and a Florida driver’s license in 2023.

He lived in Pensacola under the assumed identity until federal authorities arrested him on April 1, 2025.

Montero pleaded guilty to passport fraud, false impersonation of a citizen, and aggravated identity theft.

Nicholas Ingegno, Assistant Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in Tallahassee, emphasized the severe impact identity theft has on victims, highlighting the commitment of HSI to protect U.S. identification systems and personal information.
