A Memphis couple, Tarus Johnson, 38, and Charecia Alexander, 35, were arrested Thursday in connection with a string of robberies across the city. The Memphis Police Department (MPD) had been investigating a series of snatch-and-grab and armed robberies targeting stores including Walgreens, Dollar Tree, Dollar General, and Family Dollar over the past several months.
Johnson was identified as the primary suspect, while Alexander was determined to be his accomplice. MPD issued warrants charging Johnson with theft of property valued at $1,000 or less and aggravated burglary in several of the cases.
On Thursday, the MPD Safe Streets Task Force located the couple’s suspect vehicle, a blue Chevrolet Cruz that had been reported stolen in February, at the Rodeway Inn on Linden Avenue. Johnson and Alexander were taken into custody without incident.
Johnson faces charges including robbery, theft of an automobile valued between $2,500 and $10,000, aggravated robbery, being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, theft of property, and aggravated burglary. Alexander is charged with aggravated robbery, evading arrest in an automobile, robbery, and theft of an automobile.
At this time, their bonds have not been set.
