Melvin Washington Arrested for Second-Degree Murder in Shreveport

Suspect taken into custody after February 27 homicide investigation

SHREVEPORT, La. – Police have arrested Melvin Washington in connection with a February 27 homicide at 541 East Stoner Ave., the Shreveport Police Department (SPD) announced.

After an investigation, detectives identified Washington as the suspect in the death of a 41-year-old man. On Friday, March 22, 2025, the SPD Violent Crimes Unit, with assistance from the Bossier City Police Department, executed a search warrant at a residence in Bossier City, where Washington was taken into custody.

He has been charged with one count of second-degree murder.

Police Praise Arrest
Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith praised the teamwork between law enforcement agencies.

“This is an outstanding job by SPD detectives, and we are thankful for the support of the Bossier City Police Department in apprehending another violent criminal and removing them from our streets,” Smith said.

Authorities continue their efforts to combat violent crime and ensure justice for the victim.
